Wow! We have been "Merrying" for 17 days! Welcome Through My Back Door for Merriment Day 17. Yesterday was 12-12-12 and I had some awesome luck. I found Kona decaf coffee! I was so thrilled I bought it all and then felt guilty. (Not for long)lol Anyway this is one of my favorite Christmas Merries.
Old Fashion apple stack cake. My grandma (Nannie) we called her always made these. Then when she could no longer my Aunt Annie made them. The time came when she couldn't either and we just had to have someone step up to the plate.(or oven) and it was me! It was hard to believe but I did it. This one isn't too pretty and they have to set for 4-5 days at least to be really good. Friday, I will be making them for this year. It just isn't Christmas without them. Stack cake and coffee! Yum!
I am so glad you came Through My Back Door where life is good!
betty
It is looking so yummy
ReplyDeleteThank you dear,
Love cucki x
Never heard of this one Betty. Bet it WOULD be good with coffee. I remember my Grandmother making her Japanese Fruit Cake with the layers being different colors way early for Christmas, wrap it and then daily pour something over it to sit. I don't remember what she put over it. Haven't had one since she passed away. Neat that you carry on the tradition.

What a nice tradition. I have not heard of these as well. Do you just slice it like a cake when it is ready? It looks like you pour something over it as well...just curious, I love family traditions!

Glad you have the recipe to carry on the tradition .. my mother and grandmother made fruit sausage, never got the recipe but did manage to come up with on using the ingredients I knew they used and it tasted the same. Guess I should make it this year and write down my recipe.
ReplyDeleteI've never had them... I wish I were there to get a piece. Hugs, Lura
ReplyDeleteHi Betty--Hmmm...never heard of it either, a Southern tradition? It sounds delicious though! Some of my favorite recipes are those mom scratched down on scraps of paper...yum! I make several recipes from Al's grandmother all the time.--Jan
ReplyDeleteOh My a wonderful family tradition pasted down. Love it, though I have never heard of them. I have a few of my M-I-L's recipes that I make for him. OLM
ReplyDeleteBetty that is a wonderful tradition.Bet it is yummy.Hugs,Jen
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the list of never hearing about them...more info please! It certainly looks good. Reminds me that my niece told my mom on Thanksgiving that she wanted Grandma to teach her how to make her caramel rolls because Michelle didn't want the recipe to die with her. After laughing about it we all thought it was really special. Thanks for the visit and chat!
ReplyDeleteBe blessed,
Cindi

ReplyDeleteI'm from Knoxville area, living in Fl. Don't remember how I found you, but I read you every day. My Mother made dried apple stack cakes. Many years ago, she also dried the apples. Just found her recipe for the cake part. I might have to see if I can do this. Thank you for sharing the "southern" I miss so much.
