A Little Mustard?

Good morning and welcome Through My Back Door. Ready for a cup of coffee and a visit? It is always nice when you have company and I am happy to see you this morning. I have been gone to Pigeon Forge with Debs family and just got home Monday evening. We had a good time and ate too much. There was a lot of laughing going on and I read an entire book. I am grateful they continue to include me in their get a ways. We had home made pizza one night, and hamburgers and hot dogs one night. On Saturday night we went out to dinner. I love hotdogs. Have never met one I didn't like.lol Ball park, race track, doesn't matter, I like them all. So keeping with the hot dog theme, lol, how about a little mustard. I love the color. I starting using it years ago before it became the color, and my family thought I had lost my mind
. Curt would refer to it, "as that ugly color Mom likes". Curtis would say he was afraid to stand still "afraid he would be painted mustard!" That makes me think of how everyone paints everything black today. Drives me nuts to see good wood painted black. That is another blog.lol
Anyway my love of mustard in decor still stands. I am a creature of habit. Most of you know that by now if you have been visiting long enough. I do NOT like change. I get used to things a certain way and just leave it forever. So, anyway, I will share some of my favorite mustard.

I love this old chair. All handmade and pegged together.
Another chair I love!
Well, you can see I do like mustard. Know what else I like? You coming Through My Back Door where life is good.

PSSS: I have enjoyed several trips this summer, but am home for a while. No matter how much you enjoy going, there is nothing like coming home.

Feeling the Blues

Good afternoon and welcome Through My Back Door. It is hot so we will have to visit in the house today. You can have a glass of sweet tea if you like or the traditional coffee. The choice is yours. I am feeling the "Blues", what about you? I have been reading some blogs and have seen a lot people posting about their blues, so I decided I would too. I am not talking about those old sad blues, but the color blue.  For a while blue has taken a back seat to other colors. However it is my opinion that blue is a staple and not at all trendy. In fact I don't believe color should be a trend. I think you should find the color you like and stick with it, regardless of what the decorators say. I decided a few months ago I wanted  a blue room.
This is in the blue room. It was sent to me by Mary Lou a long time ago

Love this bowl
Piece of blue coverlet
Winter coverlet and corner cupboard.
Yes I have the blues and always will. Blue is a soothing color to me. Now I love my reds and mustards too, but wanted to share the "blues".
Can't post a blue post with out adding some of these beautiful blues.

Blue skies at beautiful Seagrove Beach
So these are some of my favorite blues. I hope you have some blues that make you as happy as it makes me when you come Through My Back Door where life is good.

PS: Had a scare this week. Boo was gone for 3 days. She is home and doesn't seem a bit remorseful for what she put me through!

Simple

Hey, everyone, good to see you and come on in Through My Back Door and lets talk Simple. Get a cup of coffee and a cookie and come sit down and visit. Have you ever just took time to think how complicated your life can get? And why? When I was younger, I took it for granted it had to be that way. But know what? It doesn't. My Mother was a wise woman and no matter how hard I try, I will never be like her.Yet she never told me I didn't have to be busy or doing something all the time. She didn't teach me to love simplicity and unfortunately I never thought to teach my kids either. They are all so busy and have too much to do. That will be another post.lol I do stupid things(to this day) then wonder why. I say things I wish I hadn't. I do things I wish I hadn't, (Should have called this post, I wish I hadn't)lol But truth is, we don't have to get complicated, we just need to be simple. I belong to a FB group dedicated to simple ways, and I know I am not the only one who feels this way. Oh I like my "things" just not as many of them as I used too. (I will always like my bling, for those of my family who reads this and supplies me)lol However I am just not into things like I used to be. I am more into enjoying and just being simple. (Now some may take this simple thing too far and say I am "simple")lol
So here is what I am enjoying today. My grass freshly cut by Chris. I love sitting here
and looking at this.
See the dinner bell shadow?
Can't get much more simpler, huh? Yesterday down below my house was a young buck, maybe 4 points and a young doe. So pretty and I couldn't get my camera on my phone turned on fast enough to get a picture.
Several things mean "simple" to me. Reading a book on a rainy day. Sitting by the fireplace on a cold day enjoying a strong cup of coffee. Visiting with friends who are like family. Playing cards or dominoes. Seeing a vignette that just says simple.

An old chair, worn from years of use.

I live in a simple little house. It was built with love and I love it. I hope you have enjoyed your visit today, a simple visit Through My Back Door where life is good.

PS: It is my opinion, you can't enjoy the simple things with out reading good books and drinking good coffee. They just enhance enjoyment.
PSS: Will you take my Simple Challenge and find just one thing that simplifies Simple to you? If you like share it with me
PSSS: I am still reading my Susan Branch Book, A Fine Romance. I recommend it to all of you. Also if you are seeking Simplicity, discover Gladys Taber books. Two of my friends went to the Stillmeadow Reunion this year and met Susan Branch. Carol and Georgia. I was invited but couldn't do it this year. They actually toured Stillmeadow, which would be a dream come true.
Carol, Susan Branch and Georgia. I didn't ask permission to do this, so if they care I will have to ask forgiveness.lol

A Few Tweaks

Good Monday Morning and come on in Through My Back Door, where the coffee is always on and you are always welcome. It is good to see you this morning and you are in luck. You can have a piece of yellow cake with caramel icing with your coffee. Yes, it is this coffee.
I am hooked on it.lol Anyway, it is Monday and I am NOT doing laundry. This apple must have fallen a LONG way from the tree.lol I will share why, you have cake on a Monday morning. A fellow blogger, Earlene, was trying to work out stopping here on Sunday.  Primitive Passion Decorating,
but it didn't work out. Weather got in the way and she had stated she wanted cake and coffee here, so I made a cake, lol , and cleaned the porch furniture so she could get her wish.
So I sat out here and ate a piece, oh yes I ate one for her too! Hopefully next time it will work out.
I did a bit of tweaking. I went over to my friend Carol's last week and I always get motivated there. She has the most welcoming home you will ever visit.
I love this picture and that is her sweet Hattie and Ginger who are no longer with us in the door. She does have 2 new fur babies that are soooooo cute. Anyway I love her coffee table arrangement and came home and changed mine. She and I copy one each other all the time, so it was okay.lol
s
Simplicity
I don't tweak much anymore, so it was kind of fun making a few changes.
I have a basket of wool from Audrey on the chair. It stays there all year and is so soft.
Carol gave me this book by Susan Branch. It is basically her story of her love affair with her husband and their second trip to England vis the Queen Mary2. It is wonderful I want to go to England. I have hardly been able to put this down as she has taken her readers on tours of gardens, homes, pubs, etc.
since we are in the bedroom, (this book is on my night stand) I will show you I put the red coverlet back on the bed. I need a change but don't know what I want. any suggestions?
I never see a picture of  my bed, that I don't think of Gloria Gale when she and Bill were shooting my house for CS. He called her to look at a shot and she said,"Good grief it looks like a runway!" Of course he had to shoot a different angle.lol It is a large bed, hand made in Hawkins county, Tn, mid 1800's. Dodd had a machinist make exact copies of the hard ware so we could make it queen. I have the original so the integrity of the bed is intact. BTW the little corner cupboard was made by the world's best s-i-l
It has been nice having you visit this morning, as always I hope you left feeling happy and contented. Give some one a call today and tell them you are thinking about them, I am going to. I love having you come Through My Back Door where life is good.
betty
PS:

Amanda did this jar for the 4th of July> Isn't this cute?
PSS: Saturday Mollie and Andrew did a lemonade stand to help the children of Haiti. All Andrews idea. some of you probably saw this on FB
PSSS: Lets continue to pray for our fellow bloggers. I learned bloggers are prayers and am so proud to be a part of this group

No Time Like Summer Time

Good afternoon and come on in Through My Back Door. I have been looking for you and have sweettea as well as Death Wish coffee.  You can have your choice. I have been thinking about Summer Time. Isn't it wonderful? This has been going on at my house

The day lillies have been blooming their hearts out. I love them. I have told you before I am NOT a gardener, but I love my day lillies. Do you see why? Ahhhh summer
Nothing like sitting out on the porch in the morning having my coffee and looking out across the yard.

I love summer! You get up throw on a pair of shorts and a tee shirt and you are ready for the day. You feel free for some reason, or I do. I have been gone a lot, but I love being home too. I love being around my things and in my own surroundings, do you? Remember my philosophy is only have the things you love around you and that includes people.
A friend at church, Freda, gave me some hydranges and I have dried them. I haven't had any to dry in years.

I hope you are all enjoying a happy carefree summer. School will be starting before we know it, then football season, and wow then it will be fall! I don't know about you, but I am going to enjoy these lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer as long as I can! I am going to enjoy you Coming Through My Back Door where life is good too, as long as it is open
betty
PS:Amanda didn't get her pix to me yet, but when she does I will share.lol They will be good for next year.lol
PSS: One of our blogging buddies and I may get to meet this week. It hasn't worked out yet, but who knows?
PSSS: Share with me, what you enjoy about coming Through My Back Door, would you?
