What's Not to Love About Fall

Good evening, come on in and sit down and lets visit a while. It is a perfect evening. Did you get your coffee? I hope you like the Pumpkin Spice, it is Door County and I love it. The Speckled Hen is selling it and I am so happy!lol Today is the last day of September and I have been thinking about fall. I love fall. On FB all the prim people are saying fall is their favorite season and it is mine too. Think about it. What is there not to love about fall? Some of my favorite things to do is drink coffee, hot mulled cider, and hot Cinnamon Spice tea. I like reading a good book, snuggled up with a warm throw, the candles burning and the dog sleeping peacefully. What about you? What do you especially like? I love making homemade apple butter. It is my husbands great grandmothers recipe and it is the best! You know I had to be married to him for 30 years before my mother in law would give me the recipe!lol That is the truth. I guess she thought I was in the family to stay by then.
I love the colors of fall. I live between ridges and the colors get so brilliant. I love festivals,  hot soups, and visits from friends. I get my Gladys Taber books out in the fall and reread them through Christmas. What about you? Do you have books you reread each year? I love Gladys Taber and the StillMeadow books. They are the best. One of my prized possessions is a hand written note from her, back in 1972. Her books make you feel so secure for some reason. I love trips to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, I love sitting on my front porch and just being. Well I guess I have made my point. I love fall.
Another thing I love is Family Weavers throws, coverlets, runners, etc. Well  they have a new pattern and I got a table square today. It is called, Hamblen County Tennessee Trouble. Hamblen county is where Dasko goes to doggie camp when we go away.
It is a dark red. The Hen just got these in today. I really like it.
I also have a thing for carriers or boxes. This is really different but I just loved it when I saw it. It isn't old, but a master craftsman made it. It is cherry and I love cherry and walnut.
What do you think? I thought I might use it to hold paper clips, stapler, pens, etc, by the computer, but for now it is here.
Another thing I have done is, I am using blue in my guest room. I have the old blue quilt back on the bed for winter.
I also use this old coverlet piece on the meal chest in there.
Now I have added this.
I have some neat accessories I want to add when I get it done. I am just in the mood for a little change. I'll post a picture when it is finished.
Thanks so much for coming by to visit. I love it when you do come Through My Back Door, where life is good.

ps: Domino update. I told you Domino went to a new home a couple of weeks ago and they absolutely love that cat. Well today Domino went to the vet to be spayed. Surprise, Domino is a male and had already been neutered! Life is not only good through my back door, it is full of surprises!

  4. It was a nice visit with you tonight, Betty! I enjoyed hearing about your love of all things fall. I, too, love fall. It's hard for me to pick my favorite season, but I guess I'd have to go with autumn as well. There is just something so cozy and snuggly about it -- and the warm colors of the season are the best. I enjoy apple picking and pumpkin carving. I love the fall candle scents and the smell of leaves burning and fireplaces going. It's just a peaceful time of year. Unlike others, I don't dread the winter, so that doesn't factor into my thoughts on autumn's arrival. I really like all the seasons..... But there is something special about fall.
I really love your new table square... and your spare room is looking great with the blue in there. Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. Your guest bedroom is all ready for me! Thank you!! ;)
Fall is so beautiful! I love to open my front door (even if it's chilly) and let the bright colors spill through while my candles are lit and relaxing on the sofa!
I have seen the new weavers pattern in a magazine and liked it too...I'll have to see if the stores near me carry it.

  6. Hi Betty, I love fall also, but have been later this year with my decorating. I have finally finished but found I didn't put out as much as usual. Holly is coming by to pick thru and take some things home for her and Darbee Rae to decorate with. I love the table square. I got my first coverlet while in Ohio. I wish I had lots more, something I can get everytime we go up. love the box. So many possibilities for it. Your beedroom is so pretty and inviting. Love the glimpse of the spinning wheel. I saw in the article on Deb's home in Country Sampler where yours was in there in a previous issue. I had just started blogging then, I am going back and check it out. Loved Deb's. Beautiful and her and your SIL are so talented. Love the blue cupboard in the corner. Great addition to the room. There is suppose to be a chill in the air in the morning and cool all day and I am so excited. Looking forward to a quite day at the homeplace with my hubby. Take care and hope a good weekend is heading your way.

  7. Such a fun visit tonight Betty - Door County as in Wisconsin? Ahhh...no wonder it was so special. ;o) Love your new little carrier - so unusual with the drawer...And that blue piece in your guest room is stunning. Yes, fall is my favorite child - as much as I try to cling to summer's ripeness, Fall knows she is my darling. I love the fullness and richness....of the colors, the harvest, the season...there are no colors more vibrant or seasons where the temperatures feel as intense....a fall "coolness" is so fresh, and a warm fall day is as warming as any summer day could wish to be...everything is just "fuller...." Wishing you a blessing-filled weekend....Smiles & Autumn Hugs ~ Robin

  8. Such a comforting post, Betty. I just love your home and the comforts that you share with us. Your new touches of blue are so welcoming for the fall. I love fall as well, but it is different here in California. I so miss the fall days Back East with the apple picking, wood stove with potpourri simmering on top, (stacking wood lol) County Fairs (Deerfield NH - the best) turning leaves and raking leaves apple cider, frost on the pumpkins....But I have lots of pictures and lots of memories. And the thing about memories are they stay forever in your heart, and nobody can take them away from you. So as the days here stay warm this weekend, I will keep the AC on, bake some pumpkin bread, simmer some potpourri on the stove and light one of my favorite candles(McCalls Country Store is my absolute favorite). I also need to make a crock pot dish for the Pastor appreciation pot luck on Sunday and I am out of ideas, nothing is inspiring me (any ideas would be appreciated). Well thanks for sharing your warm Fall country home with us. Blessings ~Sara

  9. Betty ... I am finally to the point where I can visit blogs & make posts again. Sure did enjoy visiting with you this morning! I think people would be willing to stand in line to spend a night in that guest room of yours, me included : ) I have always been an I LOVE WINTER person but I have to admit that fall has been just as special. You mentioned books. My favorite re-reads are books by Miss Read. I used to read them every year starting in the fall. I haven't read them since we moved here & was just mentioning to John a week or two ago that I'd love to read them again but they are packed in a box way in the back of a closet. I guess I will pass them by again this year. I have other things I can busy myself with. Good grief ... ramble, ramble, ramble ... lol! Have a wonderful weekend! Blessings, Shirlee
