A Simple Yellow Bowl

Good Wednesday morning everyone. Welcome Through My Back Door where everything is clean and fresh. Oh yes the coffee is on and again we are having Hazelnut, from Dunkin Donut. Dunkin Donut is my favorite coffee. After DD my next favorite is Kona. While you get your coffee and find a seat, I'll show you this simple Yellow Bowl.
See, it is nothing significant at all. It even has a crack in it it.
Can you see it? Well I was washing everything in my house, after the skunk episode and when I washed this little bowl a flood of memories about it came rushing back. You all know my husband and I were in the antique business for many years, several years ago. As dealers you are always on the hunt for items. You look everywhere trying to find wonderful things. We always said, you kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince. Well needless to say, you didn't always dress up when you went yard selling. This one day we stopped at a little house and it was an older couple having the yard sale. We looked around and my husband found some tools. I kept picking up this little bowl, with the crack wondering if I could resell it. I decided I didn't want to have a cracked item and set it back down. Apparently the old gentleman had been watching me. When we got into our van to leave, he picked up the bowl, ran over to the van and said, "You like this and we want you to have it!" He was grinning from ear to ear. I tried to pay him and he said,"Oh no. This is a gift." He thought I couldn't afford it. So that little bowl has stayed with me all these years reminding me of the kindness of an old couple, my path never crossed again. Yet in that brief meeting they touched me with their kindness and generosity, that I have not forgotten.
That bowl represents much more than it appears to. We never know when we do a small deed or say a kind word that it will be remembered for the years to come.
That Simple Yellow Bowl fills me with a warm feeling every time I look at it? What is your Simple Yellow Bowl?
Thank you for coming Through My Back Door, where life is good.

  3. Oh I love the bowl story. Yes you never know what small kindness you give toward someone, how it might be remembered for long time. My yellow bowl looks like your, it even has a crack in it. But I wouldn't part with it for any amount of money. You see my father gave it to me not long before he died, it gives me memories of our antiquing days together. I enjoyed my visit today. Vicky
